The Summer Reading Challenge is a great opportunity for children to get involved in the UK’s biggest FREE reading for pleasure programme! The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to keep reading during the school summer holidays.
The recent launch event at Newbridge Fields was a massive success with at least 260 children signing up on the day! They all attended with parents or guardians, and many joined in on the Scavenger Hunt finding all the clues!
There were lots of fun activities for the children to enjoy, from bouncy castles and inflatables, to crafts, robots, story times, slime making with Mad Science stand and running an obstacle course. We even had a special visit from Bridgend County Borough Council Leader, Cllr Huw David OBE, whose son signed up to the challenge too.
All the fun was caught on camera by our videographer Joe, if you follow this link – Summer of Fun Video – see if you can spot yourself in our Summer Reading Challenge Launch video!
A special thank you to all our staff, and all the volunteers and people who helped to make the day a massive success and to everyone who attended.
Remember that the Summer Reading Challenge is running all through August, and the beginning of September. There is still time for children to sign up. There will be stationery, medals, certificates and more to be won once the challenge is completed!
